CEO at Blue Sky Robotics

Steven King is the CEO of Blue Sky Robotics and the Distinguished Professor of Innovation and Emerging Technologies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he holds joint appointments with the Hussman School of Journalism and Media and Kenan-Flagler Business School. He combines computer science concepts, human-centered design, and storytelling to create new ways to present information through emerging technologies such as virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and other interactive media forms. 

 

As CEO of Blue Sky Robotics, which leverages computer vision and robotics to solve complex problems in the supply chain, manufacturing, and hospitality industries, he helps organizations become more efficient through robotic automation. In addition to running a company and his role at the University, Steven consults with Fortune 500 corporations, U.S. government agencies, and foreign governments on building innovative and resilient organizations. He helps organizations solve complex problems using human-centered design and creative problem-solving concepts. During the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, King worked directly with the Ministry of Information in Liberia to create an AI prediction model and a data visualization dashboard to enable better decisions for fighting the disease. He has also worked with the Thai government on using media to lessen the violence from Islamic Insurgencies.  King is also a regular speaker and faculty member for various programs by the Institute for Defense and Business, UNC Executive Development, and conferences around the world.
